Minimally invasive surgery

Minimally invasive surgery is an effective surgical method that is less intrusive than traditional surgery. By using small incisions and instruments, we are able to create positive surgical outcomes that typically have minimal scarring, faster recovery times and shorter hospital stays.

Our minimally invasive surgical services

Although robot-assisted procedures are typically the most popular minimally invasive surgical option, we also perform arthroscopy and laparoscopy procedures.

Robotic diagnostic testing capabilities

Robotic technology can be useful in detecting lung cancer in its earliest stages, using advanced bronchoscopes to view the inside of the lungs and obtain tissue samples for biopsy. We are the first in Eastern Ventura County to have this innovative technology, enabling us to obtain earlier and more accurate diagnoses of small and hard-to-reach nodules in the lung's periphery.

There are various diagnostic options currently available for lung cancer, but all have limitations in accuracy, safety or invasiveness. Using a robotic interface, our specialists can navigate a flexible endoscope to the periphery of the lung with improved reach, vision and control. Combined with 3D models of your lung's anatomy, the robot-assisted platform provides physicians with continuous bronchoscope vision throughout your entire procedure.

Types of minimally invasive procedures we offer

Arthroscopy uses small incisions and a small camera to diagnose and treat joint conditions. In these procedures, a thin instrument is inserted through the incision, and the joint is able to be seen on a video monitor. Laparoscopy uses similar equipment and techniques, but typically for surgeries of body cavities, such as the abdomen.

Robot-assisted surgery, however, employs the use of a robotic surgical arm, controlled by the surgeon via an adjacent control panel. Guided by miniature surgical instruments and a high-definition 3D camera, which projects a magnified image of the surgical site onto a computer screen, the surgeon is able to use the robotic arm to accomplish movements with greater precision and range of motion than is is possible with the human hand.

This technology creates a variety of opportunities for improved procedures across a broad spectrum of surgical specialties, including:

Additionally, minimally invasive, robotic surgery has many potential benefits, including less pain, minimal scarring, a faster recovery and shorter hospital stay.

Robot-assisted joint replacement

We specialize in robot-assisted orthopedic surgery for total hip and knee replacements, particularly for those with mid- to late-stage osteoarthritis.

The process begins with a computerized tomography (CT) scan of the joint, then the results are uploaded into the robot’s software, creating a 3D model of your joint. Your surgeon will use this 3D model to pre-plan and customize the joint replacement surgery to your exact anatomy.

By using the 3D model, your surgeon is always guaranteed to stay within the outlined surgical boundaries, allowing the robotic arm to remove diseased bone and cartilage within the joint.
